Spaying and Neutering

Procedures

As a pet parent, you’ll make dozens of healthcare decisions on behalf of your pet over the years. One of these is whether to spay or neuter your dog or cat. Spay and neuter procedures sterilize your kit or pup to prevent unwanted births of puppies and kittens. At Grandview Animal Hospital, we offer quality veterinary services to pet owners in Surrey, Langley, Delta, and the surrounding communities, including spay & neuter procedures.

Spay & Neuter Procedures

What to Expect from Spay & Neuter Procedures

Spaying is a surgical procedure that removes your female pet’s reproductive organs to prevent pregnancy. Neutering removes your male pet’s testicles to keep him from impregnating an intact female. Your kit or pup will be placed under general anesthesia for the surgery to prevent him or her from feeling pain. We’ll provide your pet with pain medications to alleviate any minor discomfort he or she may feel once the surgery is done.

Benefits of Spay & Neuter Procedures

In addition to preventing unwanted babies, spaying or neutering your pet can benefit his or her health.

Spaying your female pet reduces her risk of breast cancer and uterine infections. Neutering your male pet reduces his risk of testicular cancer and prostate problems. Fewer health problems can extend your pet’s lifespan, giving you more time to enjoy his or her companionship.

You won’t have to deal with your female’s irritating heat cycle symptoms nor your male’s uncontrollable urge to mate. It’s not unusual for male dogs to escape from home and roam the streets looking for a female mate. In the process, your dog could get lost or injured.

Spay & neuter procedures save you the time and expense of feeding and caring for a brood of baby pups and kittens.

Neutering your pup can help curtail aggressive behavior, making him that much more agreeable to live with.

Most important of all, spay & neuter procedures reduce pet overpopulation, sparing dogs and cats the anguish of living on the streets scrounging for scraps.

Spay/Neuter Risks

Although no surgical procedure is completely risk-free, complications from spaying or neutering your pet are very low. Working with a qualified veterinarian from Grandview Animal Hospital increases your pet’s chances of having a successful surgery. Before scheduling surgery, we’ll conduct a comprehensive physical exam of your pet to make sure he or she is in optimal health. We’ll also monitor your pet’s post-op care to ensure he or she has a speedy recovery.
